How We Tackled Black Mold and a Deep Clean in a Madison Home

Cleaning ServicesBlogHow We Tackled Black Mold and a Deep Clean in a Madison Home

Booking a deep clean usually means dealing with more than dust — mold, litter box residue, and buildup that’s been sitting for a while are common realities in Madison homes, especially when pets are part of the picture. A standard clean often isn’t built to handle it.

We recently completed a deep cleaning job for a residential property in Madison, WI that turned into exactly this kind of challenge, including a stretch of black mold that needed serious attention.

Here’s what the job involved and how our team worked through it.

The Job

This was a deep clean for a 700 sq. ft. home in Madison with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom, plus an oven interior cleaning add-on. The scope covered the bedroom and living areas — vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, mirrors, flat surfaces, light fixtures and fans, baseboards, interior windows, and blinds and shutters. The bathroom received full attention: sweeping, mopping, dusting mirrors and surfaces, trash removal, glass, tub, toilet, sink, faucet, fixtures, baseboards, windows, and blinds and shutters. In the kitchen, the team handled sweeping, mopping, dusting, the stovetop, trash removal, sinks, faucets, fixtures, cabinet exteriors, baseboards, windows, and blinds and shutters.

The job took approximately 4.5 to 5 hours total, including a short 20-30 minute break for supplies.

What We Found

A cat lived in the home, and there was significant litter scattered around the litter box area that needed cleanup. The bigger issue turned up in the bathroom: black mold on the ceiling, which took considerably more time and effort than a standard bathroom clean would require.

How We Handled It

For the bathtub, our team used a bathroom cleaner alongside a razor blade to remove built-up soap scum, leaving the surface clean and shiny rather than just visibly wiped down.

The black mold on the bathroom ceiling was the main unexpected challenge. It took extra time to work through, but the team stayed with it until the ceiling was properly addressed rather than treating it as a quick spot-clean.

Where We Drew the Line

The blinds in the home were very fragile and heavily soiled. Rather than risk damaging them with a full scrub, our team opted for light cleaning and dusting only — prioritizing the integrity of the blinds over a deeper clean that could have caused them to break.

The Result

This was a full deep clean requested with add-ons, including oven cleaning and detailed surface attention throughout the home. The client was very pleased and happy with the final results.

Why Madison Homeowners Choose Badger Luxe for Deep Cleaning

Not every deep clean is straightforward — mold, pet-related buildup, and delicate fixtures all require judgment calls that a generic checklist can’t account for. Our team is trained to recognize when a surface needs extra time and when it needs a gentler touch, like fragile blinds that could be damaged by aggressive scrubbing.

Every job is background-checked staff using eco-friendly products, customized to the actual condition of the home rather than a one-size-fits-all routine. Whether it’s mold, pet mess, or add-ons like oven cleaning, we adjust the plan to match what the property actually needs.

FAQ

Can you remove mold during a deep cleaning appointment?

Yes, our team can address mold on surfaces like bathroom ceilings and tile as part of a deep clean. Severe or widespread mold issues may need additional time built into the appointment, so it’s worth mentioning when you book.

Do you clean homes with pets in Madison?

Yes. Pet-related cleanup, including litter box areas and pet hair, is a routine part of many deep cleans we handle. Let us know about pets when scheduling so we can plan for it.

Will you clean fragile items like blinds or shutters?

We assess condition before diving in. If blinds or shutters are fragile or heavily soiled, we may recommend lighter cleaning and dusting instead of a deep scrub to avoid damage, and we’ll always flag this with you during the job.

Is oven cleaning included in a standard deep clean?

Oven interior cleaning is typically offered as an add-on to a deep clean rather than a standard inclusion. Let us know when booking if you’d like it included.
